When a friend asked me the other day on why I bought the Blackberry Curve, I realized how fond I am of this little gadget. It’s light at about 110 gm, and the keypad has been designed to suit thumb typing. The Blackberry Curve has a Speaker phone with voice Activated Dialing facility, which is useful for me when I needed to make called while driving. The phone also has a media player and a 2.0 MP camera which has built-in zoom and flash. A special feature the Blackberry Curve has is that it has the trackball, organizer and Blackberry Maps. It’s hard not to fall in love with this phone.

Prior to the Blackberry Curve, I had a Motorola KRZR which was slightly lighter at about 102g. It was a clamshell phone that has internal antenna, Bluetooth, USB, PC Sync, voice dialing, speaker phone, and picture ID. The phone has a removable Micro SD card slot which allows me to add more music files. The Motorola KRZR I had was in cosmic blue and silver sail color casing, which I liked very much, and because I have many appointments and meetings to attend, the MotoSync facility which synchronizes all contacts and calendar details with a touch of a button, thus allowing me to keep tab of my activities.

With all the various models offered by cell phone service providers, it can be confusing when deciding which cell phone to buy. And of course, cell phone technology continues to improve rapidly, bringing even more features to the newest cell phones on the market. But here are a few guidelines regarding what you can expect to get when you buy a cell phone.

First of all, remember that the cell phone is not the most important part of this communication equation, the network is. So choose your cell phone service provider first, based on the quality of performance and customer service as well as other usability factors.

Once you have your cell phone provider in mind, it’s a good idea to visit their store to physically inspect the phones that they have available. This is important because you can’t tell very much about how usable a cell phone is simply by a picture. Usually, it’s necessary to actually hold them and see how easy they are to use in order to determine how well a particular phone will meet your needs.

Generally speaking, you’ll find that most cell phones are broken down into three categories, basic phones, advanced phones, and smart phones.

“With a unique touch screen and cutting-edge multimedia capabilities, the BlackBerry Storm smartphone makes a great impression as you travel across town or to almost any corner of the world.”

One of the great new features I am starting to enjoy on my BlackBerry Storm is the ability for it to play multimedia files and specifically audio (music).

First let’s take a look at the video and audio formats supported by BlackBerry Storm:

Video format support: MPEG4 H.263, MPEG4 Part 2 Simple Profile, H.264, WMV
Audio format support: MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, WMA ProPlus

Basically, when you buy music from iTunes, it comes with a copyright protection called DRM. These DRM-protected songs are locked so that they only work with Apple MP3 players. That means that if you have a BlackBerry Storm, you cannot use iTunes music.

So, what is the solution? You have to burn a CD. When you do this, the DRM is removed (because the music is converted to a non-DRM-compatible media). After you burn the CD, you can rip it to your PC as an MP3 file which no longer has DRM.
