As a title fight in the mobile phone world, Nokia vs. Blackberry is about as exciting as it would come. Not only are both giants in their respective fields but, ever since Nokia debuted their N-series smartphones, they have been in direct competition for control over the entire smartphone market. As things stand, there is no clear winner, nor will there be for quite some time as, with every new generation of mobile phones that pop up, the tide seems to shift back and forth.

It’s unfortunate but many service providers program their GSM cell phones in such a way that they won’t work with SIM cards from another. Unlocking your Verizon cell phones means overwriting such programming. But what if your service provider minds? Not likely: besides some kind of stipulation in your contract that charges you with never altering your phone in any way whatsoever, it’s your phone; you own it. And even given such a clause you might still actually unlock your phone, as your provider makes money whether the phone is locked or unlocked. Besides, you probably wouldn’t unlock your phone anyway unless you were switching to another provider like Verizon Cell Phones – in which case it doesn’t matter if the old one minds! Just be sure to keep any unlocking codes for future reference, as there has been at least one report of a provider relocking a phone – even though it wasn’t even one issued by that provider!  Read more...

We have always been fans of Nokia products, they make a large variety of handsets from basic entry level ones to high end smartphones. They rarely disappoint in quality and hence we pounced on the Nokia 5800 when the manufacturer gave it to us for GSM cell phones review.

GPS, once a luxury to have in a mobile phone has now become a necessity. So naturally, more and more manufacturers are providing it and Nokia is the latest player to join the bandwagon. We have done GSM cell phone review for GPS based smartphones earlier and we saw that the maps occupy lots of space on the memory card and hence you don’t get to use the full capacity of the card for storing music or movies.

Previously, you had to pay a fee for subscribing to location based service like TeleNav. Google later announced that Google Maps Navigation would be providing these for free and now Nokia is also doing the same.

In our GSM cell phones review section, we had done Nexus One which is an amazing device from the stables of Google.
