First of all before you go get yourself an unlocked cell phone it would be wise to know something about why people are unlocking their cell phones. Usually when you buy a new cell phone a SIM card is already provided to from a certain carrier. The phone is only configured to be use with a particular SIM card carrier. The phone is usually referred to as a locked phone where in you can only use only a SIM card from one carrier. If you insert another SIM card from another carrier a message can be displayed such as “SIM card rejected” or “Insert SIM card”. When the mobile phone is locked you can only use it in the country where the carrier works or provides service.

Due to the limitation of the use of locked phones consumers complained that they spend a lot of money changing phones or SIM cards because they cannot use it in another country. Since then providers have allowed consumers to buy or acquire unlocked cell phone provided that they abide by the rules governing unlocking phones. In other countries when phones are unlocked they do not allow changing the phone’s IMEI number. The flash memory of the cell phone must not also be overwritten or erased during the process of unlocking the cell phone. They have restrictions of limitations in unlocking the mobile phone because the providers do not want to lose profit. And the bad thing about unlocked cell phone is that you will not be able to avail of your service provider care.

There are 4 billion cell phones in use all over the World! And with the phones come their stories and myths which buzz with the self-proclaimed experts!  Most of the users are not scientifically inclined and gobble up all the mumbo jumbo that they hear!
I came across these four stories which caught my attention. I took them rather seriously, and asked those who were knowledgeable. They laughed and laughed and took it as big joke; a wonderful humor! They said that these stories are the most absurd and contain non-scientific misinformation that must be strongly put down!
The first is a baseless story that the battery of the cell phone runs out faster if you make long distance calls. It takes more energy to reach across states and continents. It stands to reason that the longer the distance, the more power the phone will need to send it all the way. From London to Manchester will take less energy than from London to New York or from London to Bombay. But this is not true because the phone is not doing all the work. The distance which the cell phone signal needs to travel is the same for every call. This is the distance between the cell phone and the nearest relay tower of the service provider. It is the tower which then sends the voice to wherever. The message travels only the distance upto the tower with the power of the cell phone and thereafter it’s the power of the phone network system that carries it further. The drain of power from the phone battery that is the amount of power that it expends therefore is not dependant on the distance to the final destination of the call.
The second is a fallacious story that the cell phone is a radio receiver which can receive the FM stations like a normal radio. It’s true that you can hear the stations play on your phone, but the programs are not coming from the radio station directly, but through the phone connection through the service provider. If you haven’t paid your bill and the phone is disabled by the service provider the radio doesn’t work. Another example is when you remove the SIM card In a GSM phone, your radio capability is gone too! This shows that the radio program is coming to you only through the phone signal.
The third is a ridiculous story that when if you hold the phone to one ear, you hear it in both the ears, as waves pass through your head to hit the eardrum of the opposite ear. This is not true. It can be easily disproved by placing a mike at the aperture of the left ear when you have a live conversation by holding the phone to your right ear. The mike will pick up no sound thus proving the myth to be false! The signal to the phone is in the form of microwaves which are converted in the phone to sound waves. Although the microwaves travel through your head to the other ear, these cannot be heard unless they are converted to sound waves which the ear cannot do! Only when your phone is connected to stereo earphones and you wear both the earphones, one in each ear, then and only then that you can hear the voice or music in both your ears.
The fourth is an idiotic story that in vibration mode, when the cell phone vibrates, the phone numbers in the phonebook shake and they get mixed up. This is absolute nonsense as the phone numbers that are stored in the memory of the phone are not beans in a bottle to shake and get mixed up. The numbers are stored by changing the magnetic properties of the storage chip and they are not separate and distinct pieces which can be moved. Please rest assured that no matter how hard you shake the phone or vibrate it your stored numbers are not going to fall out and get mixed up!
I have written this article to dispel the wrong notions about the cell phones, but I have my own doubts as to how many readers are going to believe me. I have a lurking suspicion that these stories will continue circulate amongst the ignorant for their pseudo logic and amongst the enlightened for their in-built humor and laughter!  If I hear anyone of these stories again, I wouldn’t know whether to cry or to laugh!

Cellular phones have become one of society’s most ubiquitous accessories. What was once the domain of the wealthy technophile is now found in nearly every pocket or handbag from pre-teens to the elderly. For many, the cellular phone has even replaced the landline phone as their only telephone service. Yet with so many people purchasing cellular phones it is amazing that so few people know what they are really buying.

Although you may have purchased your phone from a service provider, in many ways the phone is not entirely yours. Many cellular phones are not able to be used at any place or with any carrier you choose. Instead, many cellular phones are locked by the manufacturer, and you can only use certain service providers with that particular phone. That holds true for all phones, unless you have purchased an unlocked cellular phone.

Inside your cellular phone is something called a Subscriber Identity Module, or as it is more commonly known, a SIM card. The SIM card is the key to your cellular phone, and all of your phones identifying characteristics and memory functions are stored there; you might call it the brains and DNA of your phone. The SIM card can be switched from one phone to another, and it allows you to instantly activate your new phone on the network while eliminating the need to reprogram information like your contact list on your new phone.

It’s unfortunate but many service providers program their GSM cell phones in such a way that they won’t work with SIM cards from another. Unlocking your Verizon cell phones means overwriting such programming. But what if your service provider minds? Not likely: besides some kind of stipulation in your contract that charges you with never altering your phone in any way whatsoever, it’s your phone; you own it. And even given such a clause you might still actually unlock your phone, as your provider makes money whether the phone is locked or unlocked. Besides, you probably wouldn’t unlock your phone anyway unless you were switching to another provider like Verizon Cell Phones – in which case it doesn’t matter if the old one minds! Just be sure to keep any unlocking codes for future reference, as there has been at least one report of a provider relocking a phone – even though it wasn’t even one issued by that provider!

If you have just found that your GSM mobile is locked, you might be racking your brains about what it means and maybe even asking yourself about how you can unlock it on your own. Simply answering, some wireless providers actually do lock their phones so that only the SIMs and memory cards issued by them will work on these phones.

While you might like the phone, you may not like the provider; in such a situation you need to know how to unlock the phone before you can actually change over to another service.

Whilst a traditional cell phone service works by sending calls to a phone, which retains its own unique serial number, a GSM mobile phone is very different. This phone uses a removable memory card or account card which is also known as a SIM card where SIM stands for “subscriber information module”. It is the card which identifies you to the service provider, as it has its own unique serial number.

Now just what in tarnation are Unlocked GSM Cell Phones? Well, there is the question of GSM and then there is the question of unlocked. Both of these questions can be answered quickly and be understood with little knowledge of technology or phones altogether. In fact, I bet a person that has never heard of Boost Mobile Cell Phones can understand what Unlocked GSM Cell Phones are by the end of this article.

With GSM technology a mobile phone comes with a SIM card. This card can be removed and placed in any other phone that accepts SIM cards. This means that the phone is not traced to you rather your SIM card is. So a mobile service carrier doesn’t mind you to a single phone per se, rather to a SIM card. Now, on the flip side if you have a phone you like and you’re comfortable with the device you can switch service providers without losing the phone. Instead you just need to switch from the old service providers SIM card to the new providers card.

Family cell phone plans can be as diverse as the different members in a family. There are so many benefits to choosing a family cell phone plan including -and maybe most importantly- diminished overall cost. To be considered a family plan at least two phone lines are required, with the option of adding more phones, starting at $9.99/per phone added. One popular cell phone provider for example, will allow up to 5 phones per plan with each additional line added costing $9.99.

The price for a family cell phone plan can be as varied as the plethora of companies offering them. It’s important to look at all the details of the plan and each company closely before signing a contract. It is possible to find one that best suits you and your needs, so don’t settle for the first one you find. Look for the details of each cell phone and provider that are tailor made for you. If there will only be two of you using the plan, it makes more sense to get a plan with minimal minutes. This is especially true if most of the calls will be made between the two phones, and you are confident no extra minutes will be accrued outside the allotment for your plan. Find a company that won’t try to sell extraneous features to you. Phone plans can be as basic or as elaborate as you need them to be. There is no reason to spend extra money on features that will never be used.

The advantages to purchasing an unlocked cell phone are many – they’re usually cheaper, they work on a number of networks, and so on. These benefits generally interest a lot of potential buyers. However, when shopping for unlocked phones, many people don’t realize that one unlocked phone is the same as all the others – they assume all unlocked phones work on all networks. This is not the case, and shoppers need to be aware which of the two types of technology (GSM & CDMA) their home cellular network uses before shopping for an unlocked phone or else they may end up with a phone that they can’t activate.

The two cellular network technologies (CDMA and GSM) are “mutually exclusive,” meaning that phones designed to work on one cannot work on the other. This is key to know and consider when shopping for an unlocked phone.

A lot of people ask if it’s legal to unlock your cell phone, and the simple answer is – Yes! You can unlock your cell phone.

Firstly, it’s your phone. And secondly, when you buy it, it is in fact in an unlocked state. That’s the default state in which most GSM phones come in.

And, as far as the carrier (service provider) is concerned, if you’re already on a calling plan and locked into a 1-2 year contract, the provider is already assured that your basic monthly commitment is going to reach them anyway. So, at least from a financial viewpoint, they shouldn’t have an issue whether or not you stay on their service with the SIM card allotted to you by them — or use another GSM provider’s SIM card on the same phone.

One way to know if your phone is unlocked is to simply insert any active SIM card (other than the one you already have) and see if it works. In a majority of cases, this should work just fine. But if the phone displays an error message, then it is locked.

If you are looking for information on a cell number, you might try a reverse cell phone lookup. It can help you in catching pranksters, a cheating spouse, and even a stalker. So, I am going to give you some information on how to perform a reverse cell phone lookup.

That way, you can get the information that you want on any cell number.

Before doing a reverse phone lookup, you will need to look for a directory that lets you reverse search cellphone numbers. In a second I will show you one working method. Some directories that can be found online are free. You will not be able to make use of them though.

They aren’t able to retrieve information on just any cellphone number. They can only do this for registered phone numbers. But be careful, because the information provided to you may not be accurate. So, your best option will be to pay for a reverse lookup directory.

They only charge a small fee for the information they provide, which in this case is accurate. They can also assist you with a number of private details on the number. Which makes it more worth your money.
